The Chicana/o Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees is saddened by the loss of advocate, activist, teacher, and friend Robert “Archie” Archuleta on Friday, January 25th, 2019. Archuleta spent decades of his life advocating for the advancement of the Chicana/Chicano community in Utah. He leaves behind his loving wife of over 60 years, Lois, and five children.

In September of 2018, the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees presented Archie with the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund Legacy Award at the 43rd annual Chicana/o Scholarship Awards Reception. The Legacy Award recognizes outstanding individuals for their efforts to promote and strengthen the cultural pride and tradition of Chicana/o community in the state of Utah. “Archie is a remarkable and tireless advocate for the Latino people and community. I’ve known Archie since 1982 when I began my career in education. Since then, I’ve watched him advocate, support and fight on behalf of the Latino community with dignity, humility, tenacity and

In order to continue to honor Archie’s legacy, the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees has established the Archie and Lois Archuleta Chicano Scholarship. The award will help fund the academic studies of upcoming young activists at the University of Utah. “I am thrilled that Archie’s legacy will continue to live on and that he and his wife Lois will continue to impact upcoming community activist with the Archie and Lois Chicano Scholarship award.” Debbie Rocha, Chicana/o Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees Past Chair, February 7, 2019.

The amount of the Archie and Lois Archuleta Chicano Scholarship award is yet to be determined. The Archuleta family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund. The funds donated will go towards the Archie and Lois Archuleta Chicano Scholarship Award.
